Gin Rummy with 3 or 4 Players

Three players rotate. Four players form two teams. Each hand is still played by two people.

In three-player gin rummy, the dealer sits out and the loser deals next. With four players, form two partnerships and play two separate hands. Combine the results into one team score; the first team to 125 points wins.

Three-player gin rummy: rotate the dealer

Deal 10 cards to each of the other two players. The dealer sits out while they play a two-player hand. The loser deals next. The winner stays in and faces the previous dealer.

Alex deals to Blair and Casey. Blair wins, so Casey deals the next hand to Alex and Blair. Keep a separate score for each player. Set the bonuses and winning score before the first deal.

Four-player gin rummy: two partnerships

Form two teams of two. Each partner plays a separate hand against someone from the other team, using a separate deck. Swap opponents between hands; keep the same partners.

  • Both partners win: add their hand points to the team score.
  • Each team wins one hand: the team with the higher hand score earns the difference.

Two wins of 18 and 32 give the winning team 50 points. If one team wins 18 and the other wins 32, the second team scores 14 points. The first team to reach 125 wins.

One stock, one discard pile

To put all three or four players in the same hand, play basic rummy. Deal seven cards each and take turns drawing from a shared stock or discard pile. Melds go face up on the table during play. The rummy vs gin rummy guide compares the rules.

Play these group games with physical cards. The online game here seats one player against the computer.
